Michael Brennan recorded his second win of the season and third of his career with a one-stroke victory at the Baycurrent Classic on Sunday in Yokohama, Japan.
Brennan parred his final six holes and shot 3-under-par 68 on Sunday to finish 16-under 268 for the tournament at Yokohama Country Club.
Keith Mitchell (68 on Sunday) and Jacob Bridgeman (69) ended up one shot shy of Brennan, who bounced back from a bogey on the 10th hole with birdies on Nos. 11 and 12.
“I was frustrated after 10, probably could have handled it a little bit better,” Brennan said. “Definitely should have hit a better chip, but making a really nice roll on 11 and 12 was huge.”
Brennan, 24, won the Wyndham Championship in August. He also captured the Bank of Utah Championship last year.
Brennan’s brother, Sean, had flown in on Saturday to witness the victory in person.
“He’s an inspiration to me,” Michael Brennan said. “He told me there on 18 it’s about time that I won with him here. He doesn’t come to many tournaments. He makes it hard on me, but it’s just really cool to be here with the family.”
Bridgeman attempted to pull even with Brennan on the par-4 17th hole, however he failed to sink a 5-foot birdie putt.
“I was in defensive mode a lot,” said Bridgeman, who opened the tournament with a spectacular 63. “I feel like I just kind of grinded my way to the end there. Was able to make some putts at important times that I needed. That one on 17’s going to sting a little bit.”
Defending champion Xander Schauffele (67) was one stroke behind the leaders before driving a shot into the trees on the 18th hole. He finished the hole with a double-bogey and settled for a five-way tie for fourth place at 13-under.
“I hit a lot of really good shots,” Schauffele said. “I definitely played good enough golf to win this tournament.”
Adam Scott, who shot a 6-under 65 on Saturday, carded a 72 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 13th place at 11-under 273.
