The New York Yankees and visiting Baltimore Orioles, in conjunction with Major League Baseball, decided to call off their regular-season finale Sunday due to continued inclement weather from this weekend’s nor’easter.
The game would not have had an impact on the MLB playoffs. The Yankees were already locked into the No. 4 seed — the first wild card — with the Tampa Bay Rays clinching the AL East title earlier this week.
The Yankees completed the regular season with a 93-68 record. They will host the rival Boston Red Sox in a best-of-three AL wild-card series starting Tuesday.
The Orioles finished 79-82 and fourth in the AL East under new manager Craig Albernaz. Baltimore experienced its second straight losing season after winning 275 games from 2022-24.
New York and Baltimore moved Saturday’s scheduled game to Friday and played a doubleheader, which the teams split. Alonso homered twice in Baltimore’s 10-2 win during the first game before the Yankees scored four runs in the sixth inning of a 6-3 victory in the nightcap for the split.
Sunday’s game was originally moved up two hours to a 1:05 p.m. start time, but rain continued to hit New York throughout the afternoon.
