Bobby McMann scored in regulation and then netted the decisive goal in the shootout as the visiting Seattle Kraken nipped the winless Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 on Tuesday.
Ville Ottavainen scored the other regulation goal for the Kraken, who improved to 3-0-0 on their five-game road trip. Seattle goaltender Philipp Grubauer made 24 saves through overtime and then stopped four of five attempts in the shootout.
Philadelphia dropped to 0-5-3 on the season, continuing the longest winless start to a campaign in team history. Christian Dvorak and Trevor Zegras scored a goal apiece while Dan Vladar finished with 29 saves and notched an assist.
After Grubauer stopped Zegras to open the shootout, Matty Beniers snapped a shot five-hole through Vladar. Matvei Michkov countered with a goal following a series of moves near the crease. That would be the last goal until the fifth round, when McMann placed a perfect shot into the top-left corner to end it.
The Flyers trailed 2-0 after two periods before scoring two goals in 1:13 early in the third.
Dvorak got them on the board at 6:07 with a goal off a feed from rookie defenseman Oliver Bonk. Zegras got them even at 7:20 as he converted a Travis Sanheim setup for his first goal of the season.
In overtime, Philadelphia was whistled for too many men on the ice with 2:39 remaining. The Kraken controlled the action for most of the man advantage but were unable to pot a game-winner.
Seattle took a 1-0 lead 7:57 into the contest on McMann’s power-play goal. It doubled the lead 8:54 into the second period on Ottavainen’s shot through traffic.
Zegras was whistled for two penalties in the second period, both involving scrums with Grubauer after the whistle. At one point in that stretch, Seattle had a 5-on-3 for 38 seconds, although Philadelphia’s defense held firm, setting the stage for the third-period comeback.
