Justin Thomas withdrew Sunday from the upcoming Biltmore Championship Asheville, the first tournament of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Fall.
The new tournament is slated for this Thursday through Sunday at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove in Asheville, N.C. It marks the start of the fall season that will see several dozen golfers competing to maintain their tour cards.
A 16-time PGA Tour winner who finished 43rd in this season’s FedEx Cup race, Thomas did not need to play in the event for that reason, but it would have served as a tune-up before he heads to the Presidents Cup the following week.
Thomas, 33, was named one of Brandt Snedeker’s six captain’s picks for the United States team. He will compete in his fourth Presidents Cup to go with his four Ryder Cup appearances.
Cameron Champ replaced Thomas in the Biltmore field.
