Luka Doncic scored 29 points with 11 rebounds and 10 assists as the Los Angeles Lakers kept up with the torrid pace of the visiting Miami Heat to earn a 130-120 victory on Sunday.
Austin Reaves scored 26 points with 11 assists and Jake LaRavia added 25 points as the sharp-shooting Lakers shot 50.5% from the floor after entering with one of the better shooting percentages in the NBA at 52.3.
Jaxson Hayes and Rui Hachimura each scored 15 points as Los Angeles won with star LeBron James (sciatica) still awaiting his season debut.
Los Angeles-area native Jaime Jaquez Jr. scored 31 points off the bench to lead the Heat, while Bam Adebayo added 17 points with eight rebounds.
Pelle Larsson also scored 17 points, while Andrew Wiggins added 15 for Miami, which entered as one of the highest scoring teams in the league at 125.4 points per game.
The Heat was within 114-110 with 5:36 remaining after a free throw from Nikola Jovic. The Lakers got a fade-away jumper from Reaves and an alley-oop dunk from LaRavia off a Reaves pass to take a 118-110 advantage with 4:56 left.
Los Angeles continued the 8-0 run with a floater from Doncic and a tip in from LaRavia with 3:55 on the clock for a 122-110 lead. LaRavia finished 10 of 13 from the floor.
The Heat never got within eight points the rest of the way with Reaves hitting a decisive 3-pointer with 1:41 on the clock for a 125-114 lead.
The Lakers controlled the first two quarters, taking an 8-0 lead 56 seconds into the game and holding a 77-63 advantage at halftime after shooting 61.7% from the floor. Doncic led the Lakers with 16 points but made 1 of 6 from 3-point range in the opening half.
Jaquez led the Heat in first-half scoring with 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor, while Miami was 50.0% as a team. The Heat pulled within 102-98 at the end of three quarters after shooting 61.9% in the period.
