Jake McCabe and Nicholas Robertson scored second-period goals to help the Toronto Maple Leafs separate from the host Philadelphia Flyers en route to a 5-2 victory on Saturday.
Auston Matthews, Easton Cowan and Calle Jarnkrok also scored for the Maple Leafs, while John Tavares notched a pair of assists. Anthony Stolarz, a former Flyer, made 31 saves for Toronto.
Philadelphia netminder Dan Vladar allowed four goals on 19 shots before giving way to Aleksei Kolosov early in the third period. Christian Dvorak and Tyson Foerster scored for the Flyers, who watched their three-game winning streak come to an end.
Toronto defenseman Chris Tanev, in his first game back after missing four due to a concussion, left the ice by stretcher. Tanev was hit from behind by Flyers forward Matvei Michkov at 8:23 of the third period. Tanev remained face down while attended to by medical staff from both teams, and his head was secured in a brace before he left and flashed a thumbs-up. Michkov was called for interference on the play.
Jets 5, Penguins 2
Kyle Connor scored two goals, including one on a short-handed penalty shot, and Gabe Vilardi had a goal and an assist to lead host Winnipeg past Pittsburgh. The Jets built a 4-0 lead before Sidney Crosby’s goal late in the second period.
Brad Lambert scored his first NHL goal, Mark Scheifele had two assists and Vladislav Namestnikov also scored a goal for the Jets, who won their third straight game. Eric Comrie made 28 saves.
Crosby and Blake Lizotte each scored goals and Arturs Silovs finished with 29 saves for the Penguins, who had their eight-game point streak snapped.
Blue Jackets 3, Blues 2
Zach Werenski scored a goal and added an assist as Columbus edged visiting St. Louis for its fourth straight victory.
Charlie Coyle and Sean Monahan also scored for the Blue Jackets, who won for the sixth time in seven games. Jet Greaves made 37 saves to earn the victory.
Justin Faulk and Nick Bjugstad scored, while Joel Hofer made 32 saves for the Blues, whose winless streak reached seven games at 0-5-2.
Canadiens 4, Senators 3 (OT)
After Ivan Demidov tied the game late in regulation, teammate Alex Newhook scored on a breakaway 1:40 into overtime to lift Montreal past visiting Ottawa.
Stepping in front of a pass at the blue line, Newhook surged alone into the Senators’ zone and rang the post past Linus Ullmark (23 saves) to give the Canadiens their third straight victory — all by 4-3 margins.
Ottawa trailed 2-0 after one period, but Drake Batherson and Michael Amadio scored in the second to knot things entering the third. Tim Stutzle broke the tie on a racing backhander past Montreal netminder Sam Montembeault (14 saves) with 7:33 left in the period.
Bruins 2, Hurricanes 1
Casey Mittelstadt scored the opening goal and assisted on Viktor Arvidsson’s eventual game-winner, leading Boston to a win over visiting Carolina.
The game was scoreless after two periods. Boston netminder Jeremy Swayman (28 saves) held a shutout until the final three minutes of regulation. The Bruins have now won three straight.
Alexander Nikishin scored the late Hurricanes goal, while Frederik Andersen made 20 saves. Carolina has lost three of its last four.
Predators 4, Flames 2
Michael Bunting scored once in a three-point outing and host Nashville rode a three-goal first period to victory over Calgary. Rookie Matthew Wood collected one goal and one assist while Jonathan Marchessault and Filip Forsberg scored once for the Predators.
Goaltender Juuse Saros made 33 saves to help Nashville hang on for the much-needed win. His side built a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes, gave up a pair of third period scores, but Forsberg cashed the empty-netter with 24 seconds left.
Jonathan Huberdeau and Joel Farabee replied for the Flames, who sit at the bottom of the league standings with only two victories in their first 13 games (2-9-2). Starting goalie Dustin Wolf surrendered three goals on 11 shots and was pulled after the first period. Devin Cooley stopped all 12 shots he faced in relief.
Sharks 3, Avalanche 2 (OT)
Philipp Kurashev scored twice, including the overtime winner, to lift San Jose to a win over visiting Colorado.
Kurashev snapped a shot over the glove of Mackenzie Blackwood at 1:48 of the extra period for the game-winner, giving the Sharks back-to-back victories for the first time since March 22 and March 27. Macklin Celebrini also scored for San Jose, and Yaroslav Askarov made 36 saves for San Jose, which improved to 2-3-2 on home ice this season.
Martin Necas and Nathan MacKinnon responded for the Avalanche, while Blackwood stopped 20 shots in the loss. Colorado recalled forward Taylor Makar from the AHL on Friday. The younger brother of All-Star defenseman Cale Makar made his NHL debut and played 6:07.
Panthers 4, Stars 3 (SO)
Brad Marchand scored the only goal of the shootout to give Florida a win over Dallas in Sunrise, Fla.
Marchand also scored in regulation along with Sam Reinhart and Sam Bennett for the Panthers. Sergei Bobrovsky made 19 saves.
Mikko Rantanen had a goal and an assist and Wyatt Johnston and Justin Hryckowian also connected for the Stars, who stretched their point streak to six games (3-0-3). Sam Steel assisted on all three tallies and Casey DeSmith stopped 25 shots.
Wild 5, Canucks 2
Vladimir Tarasenko scored a goal and picked up two assists and Minnesota pulled away to beat visiting Vancouver.
Jonas Brodin and Vinnie Hinostroza had a goal and an assist apiece for the Wild, who snapped a five-game winless drought, earning their first win since Oct. 20 against the New York Rangers. Marco Rossi and Ryan Hartman also scored goals, and goaltender Filip Gustavsson stopped 24 of 26 shots.
Drew O’Connor scored two goals to lead the Canucks and Aatu Raty collected two assists. Netminder Thatcher Demko turned aside 22 of 26 shots in the loss.
Devils 4, Kings 1
Dawson Mercer scored a pair of short-handed goals for New Jersey, which never trailed in a win over host Los Angeles.
Jacob Markstrom made 43 saves for the Devils in his first start since signing a contract extension Friday. Nico Hischier scored early in the first period for New Jersey, which snapped a two-game losing streak. Brian Halonen then collected his first NHL goal in the second.
Andrei Kuzmenko ended Markstrom’s shutout bid just before the midway point of the third for the Kings, whose point streak ended at seven games (4-0-3). Goalie Darcy Kuemper recorded 18 saves.
Rangers 3, Kraken 2 (OT)
Will Cuylle scored the game-winning goal at 2:42 of overtime as New York defeated host Seattle.
Cuylle added an assist and Vladislav Gavrikov and Noah Laba scored in regulation for the Rangers, who went 3-1-0 on their Western trip to improve to 6-1-1 on the road. Goaltender Igor Shesterkin made just 11 saves as New York outshot the Kraken 27-13.
Chandler Stephenson had a goal and an assist and Brandon Montour also tallied for Seattle, which extended its points streak to four games (2-0-2). Joey Daccord stopped 24 of 27 shots.
Sabres 4, Capitals 3 (SO)
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 31 saves and Buffalo beat visiting Washington in a shootout.
Luukkonen made five saves in overtime and was perfect in the five-round shootout as the Sabres ended a three-game losing streak. Bowen Byram scored the only goal in the shootout. Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch and Isak Rosen scored in regulation for the Sabres.
Dylan Strome, Aliaksei Protas and Sonny Milano scored for the Capitals, who have lost four straight. Charlie Lindgren made 21 saves. Alex Ovechkin remains at 899 career goals.
Oilers 3, Blackhawks 2 (OT)
Evan Bouchard scored at 2:43 of overtime to lift Edmonton to a win against visiting Chicago.
Spencer Knight made a save on a one-timer by Bouchard, but he scored on the rebound. Bouchard and Leon Draisaitl each had a goal and an assist, Jack Roslovic also scored, Connor McDavid had three assists, and Stuart Skinner made 27 saves for the Oilers, who have won two of three (2-0-1).
Andre Burakovski had a goal and an assist, Tyler Bertuzzi scored and Knight made 27 saves for the Blackhawks, who have lost three of four (1-2-1).
