Pittsburgh Penguins top-line forward Rickard Rakell is expected to be sidelined six-to-eight weeks after undergoing surgery on his left hand.
Rakell’s surgery was performed at UPMC Mercy Hospital. He sustained the injury during the third period of Pittsburgh’s 5-4 shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets after taking a shot off the back of his hand.
Rakell, 32, recorded eight points (three goals, five assists) in nine games this season.
He has totaled 527 points (239 goals, 288 assists) in 811 career games with the Anaheim Ducks and Penguins. He was selected by the Ducks with the 30th overall pick of the 2011 NHL Draft.
